A month after the tragedy, people gathered at the central plaza of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, to mourn and support the victims and survivors of the Itaewon Halloween Tragedy. We wanted to share the moments of the memorial gathering with you.

On Nov 29th, around 5 pm EST, around 70 people showed up at Diag for the memorial gathering.

Eight graduate students (Hyeri Yang, Amir Fleischmann, Sang Teck Oh, Adelina Pinzaru, Dongkyu Yeom, Garima Panwar, Gahyun Lee, and Kaeun Park) read the collective statement together in English and Korean.

Dongkyu, the writer of the collective statement, explained its purpose and context.
¿¬´ë¼º¸í¹® ÀÛ¼ºÀÚÀÎ ¿°µ¿±Ô ´ëÇпø»ýÀº ±× ¹è°æ°ú ¸ñÀû¿¡ ´ëÇÑ ºÎ¿¬¼³¸íÀ» ÀÌ¾î ³ª°¬´Ù.
Sunhong, a musician and graduate student in ethnomusicology, played Yŏmbul with a Korean double-reed instrument called Piri. Its mournful sound was very touching.
À½¾ÇÀηùÇÐ ¿¬±¸ÀÚÀÌÀÚ ¿¬ÁÖ¿¹¼ú°¡ÀÎ ±è¼±È« ´ëÇпø»ýÀÌ ÀüÅë¾Ç±â ÇǸ®·Î “¿°ºÒ”À» ¿¬ÁÖÇÏ¿´À¸¸ç, ¾ãÀº ÇǸ®¿¡¼ ³ª¿À´Â ¾ÖÀýÇÏÁö¸¸ Â÷ºÐÇÑ ¿ï¸²ÀÌ ¸ðµÎ¿¡°Ô ÀüÇØÁ³´Ù.
Many attendees spoke up to share their feelings and thoughts. We said that we just want to live in a society where we can at least go home safely after working or hanging out with our loved ones. We cried, spoke up, and stood up together.

Lastly, each attendee offered a flower to the victims at the jesa memorial table to express their condolences. We also wrote messages of prayers and solidarity.
