Samsung chairman Lee Kun Hee caught up in sex scandal

Samsung Group chairman Lee Kun Hee has landed in soup after the Korean news outlet, NewsTapa reported that the bedridden chairman has been paying for sex at home for years.
이건희 삼성그룹 회장이 수년간에 걸쳐 성매매를 해 왔다는 한국 언론사인 뉴스타파의 보도 후, 현재 병상에 있는 이 회장은 난처한 상황에 직면했다.

NewsTapa aired some video clips showing a group of sex workers entering Lee’s home in southern Seoul. The dialogue between Lee and those women indicates that illegal sexual services were provided.
뉴스타파는 강남 이 회장의 거처에 여러 명의 성매매 여성들이 들어가는 동영상 일부를 공개했다. 이 회장과 이 여성들 사이의 대화에서 불법 성매매가 제공됐다는 것을 알 수 있다.

NewsTapa said those video clips were filmed over five different occasions between December 2011 and June 2013 at Lee’s Samseong-dong residence and also at a secret rental home in Nonhyeon-dong.
뉴스타파는 이 동영상들이 2011년 12월에서 2013년 6월 사이에 이 회장의 삼성동 자택과 논현동 안가에서 다섯 번에 걸쳐 촬영됐다고 보도했다.

According to the news outlet, each woman was paid around 5 million won (S$5,979) by Lee.
뉴스타파에 따르면 이 회장은 각각의 여성에게 500만 원씩 지급했다.

The report also reveal that Samsung borrowed the names of high-profile employees to support the chairman’s illegal activities.
기사는 또한 이 회장의 불법 행위를 지원하기 위해 삼성이 고위 간부의 명의를 차용했다고 밝혔다.

In response to this, Samsung Group issued a formal statement on July 22, saying that it has no comments regarding this as “it is a personal matter”. The company also added that “it was regretful that such personal issues are causing a stir”.
이에 대해 7월 22일 삼성그룹은 공식 입장에서 “사생활에 관한 문제”여서 회사로서는 이와 관련해 할 말이 없다고 발표했다. 회사는 또한 “이건희 회장과 관련해 물의가 빚어진 데 대해 송구하게 생각한다”고 덧붙였다.

NewsTapa did not reveal the identity of those people who provided the videos. But it said there was proper evidence of two people blackmailing Samsung with the videos. Samsung said it had received threats and calls demanding money, but it did not respond to those.
뉴스타파는 이 동영상들을 제공한 사람들의 신분은 밝히지 않았다. 그러나 두 사람이 이 동영상으로 삼성을 협박한 합리적인 증거가 있다고 말했다. 삼성은 돈을 요구하는 협박과 요구를 받았으나 이에 응하지 않았다고 말했다.

Meanwhile, Samsung said the 74-year-old Lee has been bedridden since he collapsed from a heart attack in May 2014.
한편, 삼성은 74세 이건희 회장은 2014년 5월 심장마비로 쓰러진 이후 병상에 있다고 말했다.
